Who can foster?

There are a few requirements you will need to know about when it comes to fostering. There’s no upper age limit for becoming a foster carer with us, but you do need to be over the age of 21. You don’t need to own your own house, but a spare bedroom is vital. Finally, you need to have British citizenship, or permanent leave to stay in the UK. Apart from this, providing you have patience, a caring nature and most importantly, the ability to commit to the children in your care, you could become a professional foster carer with us. Fostering is open to everyone; regardless of your ethnic background or culture. Children who enter the care system are racially and ethnically diverse, and we need more foster carers from all backgrounds to help promote the ethnicity and culture of fostered children.

In some cases, it is possible to continue working whilst fostering. We understand that working is part of normal family life.

Not every child that enters the care system has special needs. It is true that around 70% of children in care will have special educational needs (SEN). Many of these children have been abused or neglected; but they are regular children with similar needs to their peers and deserve the same opportunities as other children.
