Could 2022 be the year you did something really rewarding? The year you gave a child a safe, nurturing home where they can thrive. Here’s our top five reasons why you should foster a child in 2022.
Reason 1: You can help keep a child safe...
It might sound obvious, but our foster carers play a key role in helping to keep vulnerable children safe – protected from harm, and given the chance to enjoy a childhood they deserve. Some children who need fostering may have experienced emotional, physical or sexual abuse. There are many reasons why some children need foster care. Some may have entered the care system because both of their birth parents have passed away. Each child has a different story that’s unique to them. The important point here is that you can put that spare bedroom upstairs to good use, and work with us to help keep a child safe.
Reason 2: You can help support a child through a difficult time in their life...
Imagine this. In the morning, you woke up in your own bed, surrounded by your family and all of your own possessions, but by the evening you were going to sleep in a totally different place, surrounded by strangers, and not knowing when you will next see your family. Sounds tough right? It’s tough enough for an adult to cope in this situation, but imagine how difficult this is for a child.
Sometimes it’s not safe for children to carry on sleeping in that bed they woke up in, in the morning. Sometimes children are placed into foster care placements in the middle of the night (read about emergency foster placements). Whatever the reason, our foster carers are there to reassure these children, and give them the support they need. Sometimes foster children just need to know they are safe, but others may need help before they begin to settle in. As a foster carer with us, you could be that person who helps reassure that child, through what is likely to be a very stressful time for them.
Reason 3: The right support, when you need it...
You’ve probably heard the same thing from lots of other West Midlands fostering agencies, but when we talk about support, we mean appropriate, and professional support from experienced professionals, day or night, 365 days a year. It’s really important to us that our foster carers never feel like they’re on there own – and that’s why our fostering agency places such an emphasis on ensuring our foster carer support is the best it can be. Reason 4: Build your experience and gain professional qualifications...
We’re one of a very few private fostering agencies in the UK with an accredited learning centre status. What does this mean? Well, put simply – it means we understand the importance of ensuring our foster carers receive the best possible foster carer training. Our complete training programme empowers our carers, and gives them opportunity to specialise in areas they’re most interested in. Fostering is a great opportunity to develop your own skills, achieve professional qualifications – all whilst making a positive difference to a child’s life.
Reason 5: You'll join a wider community...
Feel a part of a wider community, meet new people, and share experiences. We offer plenty of local support groups, and regular social activities for our foster carers. It’s a great time to meet new friends, and share experiences.
